William H. Smith, affectionately know as "Bill" or Bid", 72, of Galva and formerly of Medicine Lodge, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013, at McPherson Hospital following a year-long, courageous battle with cancer He was born September 12, 1940, in rural Barber County, KS to Donald P. and Edna (Garten) Smith. He attended school at Sun City, KS, graduating in 1958. After being in the workforce for four years, Bill decided he wanted something better for his family so he enrolled at Fort Hays State University in 1964. Bill graduated from FHSU in 1968 and went to work for Geigy Chemical Company. After a few years, he went to work for Farmland Industries, retiring after 32 years. On February 12, 1960, Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn S. McCullough in Medicine Lodge, KS. They have made Galva, KS their home since 1974. Bill was a member of Galva United Methodist Church, McPherson County Council on Aging, President of the Board of Galva Senior Center, and was a former 4-H leader. Survivors include: his wife, Marilyn of the home; three daughters, Connie Hollingsworth (Kent) of Canton, KS, Angie Smith (Billy) of McPherson, KS, and Mandy Burmeister (Kurt) of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Wesston Smith (fiancé, Amanda) of Luther, OK, Meghan Smith (fiancé, Reese) of Dodge City, KS, Cory Hollingsworth (Jaime) of Canton, KS, Kaity Hollingsworth of Canton, KS, and Grant and Graham Burmeister of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Mikeal Alan, a grandson, Little Billy, a brother, Jim, and a niece, Lori Smith. Two services and visitations will be held: The first service will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 16, at Galva United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharlan Graber officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Stockham Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A second visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Larrison Funeral Home in Medicine Lodge, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A graveside service will take place at 9:30 AM on Wednesday, July 17, at Highland Cemetery in Medicine Lodge, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Galva Senior Center or the American Cancer Society in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.

OSAGE, IOWA - Sara Jane Onken, 61, of Osage, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Sara was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, on February 24, 1953. Sara was the daughter of the late Glen Charles and Ethel Arlene Coverdell. Sara married David John Onken on October 16, 1970, in Charles City, Iowa.
Sara worked as an aide at numerous nursing homes in the area and also drove truck with her husband, David for a number of years.
Sara is survived by her husband, David, of 43 years; three children: Richard (Sandra) Onken of Orchard, Jody of Mason City, and Angela (Mike) Dishinger of Osage; nine grandchildren that were her pride and joy; three sisters: Ina (LaVern) Cargill of Grovetown, Georgia, Glenda (Keith) Cargill of Burlington, Kentucky, and Sharon (Stanley) Hennigar of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Glen (Gloria) Coverdell of Camanche, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at Victory In Christ Free Methodist Church, 604 23rd St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry E. Day officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Angela S. Dishinger, age 40, of Osage, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Gary Clark officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home.
Angela was born November 8, 1975, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of David and Sara (Coverdell) Onken. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1994. On July 11, 2011, she married Michael Dishinger at Spring Park in Osage. Angela worked for the Staff Motel and S&S Locker doing janitorial work. She enjoyed her family, shopping, their four pets, collecting wolves and unicorns, and helping Michael at the Redemption Center.
Angela is survived by her husband, Michael Dishinger of Osage; three sons, Jeremy Hahn, John Onken and Jason Onken, all of Osage; her father, David Onken of Osage; two brothers, Jody Onken of Mason City and Richard (Sandra) Onken of Orchard; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gloria and Ronald Dishinger of Osage; and brothers-in-law, Lonnie Dishinger of Cresco and Gary Dishinger of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sara Onken; and her grandparents.

Renee Coverdell, 53, of Knob Noster, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at a Kansas City Hospital. Born August 15, 1953 in St. Joseph, MO, she was a former resident of Maryville, MO. Renee graduated from NWMSU, Maryville, and also received a B.S. and Masters in Education from UCM in Warrensburg, MO. She was a 3rd Grade Teacher at Whiteman Elementary School for the past 16 years. She previously taught at Hickman Mills School District, Mountain Home AFB in Idaho, and at Myrtle Beach AFB in the Department of Defence School Systems. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Maryville, and the Missouri State Teachers Association.
Renee is preceded in death by her mother: Carol James Hollingsworth on May 8th, 2005.
She married Jon C. Coverdell on August 2, 1975 in Maryville, MO. He survives of the home.
Renee is survived by her father: Bill Hollingsworth, of Maryville, MO. 2 Sisters: Deborah Hargis, St. Joseph, MO and Juledene Coverdell, Maryville, MO. Brother: Clay Hollingsworth, Maitland, MO. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life: 1:30 P.M. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Bram Funeral Home of Maryville, Inc. Burial: 3:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Sparta Cemetery, St. Joseph, MO. Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Bram Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Cancer Society, or to a literacy program in your area.

Robin Ann Coverdell was born December 3, 1953, in McAlester, OK, to Hank & Hazel (White) Connor. She departed this life on Sunday, August 10, 2014, in Locust Grove, OK, at the age of 60 years, 8 months, &d 7 days.
Robin attended Dow Elementary school. She graduated Haileyville High School in 1972. She continued her education by attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Robin went on to graduate Rogers State University in Claremore with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. On October 17, 1975, in Locust Grove, OK, Robin Ann Connor & Max Coverdell were united in marriage. Together, they have made Locust Grove their home for over 38 years.
Robin was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church in Locust Grove. She worked with children in Sunday School & Children’s Church for over 30 years. As well, she was involved with the ladies that oversaw Kitchen & Cooking ministries. Robin lived her life as a born-again Christian & she would want everyone to know about her Christian Faith. She would also want everyone to seek out the plan of salvation.
Robin enjoyed time spent 4-wheeling. She also treasured spending time at the creek with her husband, friends, & family. Robin adored her grandchildren & loved the time that was spent with them. She will be remembered as a good friend & an excellent wife, mother, & grandmother. Robin will be missed by all that knew & loved her.
Robin is survived by: Her husband of over 38 years: Max, of the home; 2 sons: Andy Coverdell & wife Diana of Moore, OK & Chuck Coverdell & wife Ginger of Locust Grove, OK; 4 grandchildren: Chase, Rachel, Sara, & Haylee; 2 sisters: Patty Landers & husband Dennis of Ft. Gibson, OK & Mickey Jo Duncan & husband David of Oklahoma City, OK; 1 brother: Robert “Bob” Connor & wife Penny of Dow, OK; 1 brother-in-law: Lewis Coverdell & wife Celeste of Locust Grove, OK; Mother-in-law: Marie Coverdell of Locust Grove, OK; Father-in-law: Waco Coverdell & Cathy Bence of Locust Grove, OK; 8 nieces & nephews, numerous other relatives, & a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Locust Grove, Oklahoma. Reverend Jeff Blair officiated. Cremation services were entrusted to the Locust Grove Funeral Home.

OBITUARY ~ JAMES ALVIN COVERDELL
James Alvin COVERDELL was born April 16, 1940 to John and Florence (STRUWE) COVERDELL. And departed this earth on December 19, 1998. Jim was 58 years, eight months and three days old.
Jim grew up helping on the family farm. He attended Jefferson Center country school and then the Diagonal Community school. He was an avid hunter.
In August 1960, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country for the next 20 years. He did tours of duty in Germany, Viet Nam, Hawaii and Korea. He retired in 1980 from the military.
Jim and Irene SMITH were married February 10, 1961. To this union two children were born, Clara May and John.
On December 9, 1994, Jim and Ilene FORD were married. They established their home in Creston.
Surviving Jim are his wife Ilene, daughter Clara; three grandchildren, Shasta, Tyler, and Jared; a sister Alyce McCONNELL (husband Keith) of Mount Ayr; two stepsons, Ron and Robbie, along with his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son John; and stepdaughter Christie.
Funeral services were at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, IA on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 with Reverend Pam FARREN officiating. Musical selections were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and"High on the Mountain." Casketbearers were Jason FORD, Brian FORD, Ron FORD, Houston DIERS, Harold and Paul GLENDENNING. Honoary pallbearer was Wayne "Bud" ____.
Interment was in the Benton Cemetery, Benton, IA.
Military graveside rites were given by Ringgold Post #172, American Legion.

Fred was born November 10, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas, son of Fred Jefferson and Stella Marie (Coverdell) Jackson.

Fred was a 1954 Northeast High School graduate in Kansas City, Mo., and a member of the Belmont Christian Church in Kansas City. He retired from the Glenwood State Hospital School in Glenwood, Iowa in 2000, as a member of the State Union Local 2991. Fred said working with the special needs was the best job he could have asked for. Fishing, dancing and a pickin were just some of the love's of his life. He always said he was a jack of all trades and a MASTER of none. Fred could always put a smile on everyone's face with jokes and pranks. Sitting by a fire, cooking a hot dog with brother and sister-in-law from Iowa was a treasured moment for him. He might have told a few stories along the way and of course one or two might have stretched the truth.

Survivors include his wife Diane, Sons: Jeff, who has taken leave from the military to help care for his beloved father. Harold "Pete" Coverdell, who is on his third tour of duty, and his wife Connie, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Jerry (Anita) Jackson, Kansas City. Daughter's Terri Kramer, Bethany, Kathy (Bob) Carter, Weatherby Lake, MO., Patti Jackson, Kansas City.
